I believe in the morality teachings of most modern religions. That being said, I also believe that modern religion and the current concept of God is the greatest farce that man has ever developed. All major forms of modern religion; Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism, seek to control the human existence at an individual level based upon the teachings of said faith. Morality and rights, however, can be developed with out a religion. Thus the question that is presented is this, Is religion needed for the further development of morals and rights?
Morals and Rights derived from religious teachings have done very admirably, to a point. That point is the here and now. Our newly Globalized society, with its many cultures, religions, and concepts of just what “freedom” should entail will be the death of this old system of Morality. It’s time for a new one, one that builds upon the Human experience. The Morals of Man. A comprehensive look back at history, and the agreement upon wrongs to develop a new sense of Morales and Rights. Our new rights and morals should be based upon past wrongs, such as the Holocaust, and other atrocities widely accepted as being immoral and in violation of many human rights.
Now, some will say that no morals or rights made by man will be greater then that of the Gods, of the Laws of Nature. God’s morals include slavery and woman’s inequalities. Read a Bible sometimes. The laws of nature are up to complete interpretation of what one sees in Nature. Murder and theft are rampant in nature, yet neither is allowed by man. Nature and God have both been misread or misleading when it comes to Morality and Rights, so why must we continue to use two broken systems to define our rights? Do these two systems combined make the best available means for contriving Morals and Rights? Or would a comprehensive look back on the existence of man prove to be better? Personally, I choose the latter.
