The issue of human rights violations is a global issue. The incidents of human rights violations take place across the world and have drawn the attention of international authorities, as well as general public. The incidents of human rights abuses of women, physically handicapped, convicts, social workers and children take place continuously.

We are entitled to enjoy the following human rights such as:

Civil and Political Rights.
Social, Cultural and Economic Rights.
Right to Life.
Right to Equality before the Law.
Right to Work.
Right to Social Security.
Right to Education.
Right to Development and Self-Determination.
Right to Freedom of Expression.

The international human rights treaties not only assure rights, but also impose obligations. They impose legal accountability on a county’s government, to protect and promote human rights of individuals and groups. They oblige the government to protect groups and individuals against human rights abuses. Further, they provide that the government of a country should not interfere in the exercise of human rights by an individual.

Basic Principles of Human Rights

Human rights reflect a universal appeal. The principle of universality forms a significant part of the international human rights law. The principle was laid down for the first time in 1948, during the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. It still forms a significant part of several international human rights conventions, norms, resolutions and declarations.

The principle of non-discrimination forms a major part of several international human rights treaties and human rights conventions. Also, the principle is supported by the principle of equality. The principle of equality declares ‘All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.’ This is stipulated in the Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
